I have a standalone copy of Project Professional that I purchas ed some time ago. My company is now upgrading to Office via Office Business Premium. I have called twice now, spent an hour on the phone mostly on hold both times, been transferred from the Consumer department, to the USA, been told I’m in the wrong country, transferred back to the UK, back into the Consumer Department, and back to the USA..

So far the support I have received has been less than competent, so much so in fact that I have used Microsofts own “Report a Scam Support Company” to report them to themselves! Does anyone here, preferably from Microsoft, know exactly which phone number I have to call, and any following options, and preferably a name of someone who knows what they are doing, to get this upgrade completed?

I had the exact same problem you’re describing and it was an absolute nightmare to resolve – it’s not a scam, it’s just that Microsoft is fragmented that the right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing. When invited to upgrade the installed Office applications from to I received the same notification as you that Access would no longer run but that I could get a free upgrade to They gave me a number for the Consumer department which I called and they said I had to contact the Business department because that’s who my Subscription was with.

Once they say this there’s nothing you can do to convince them otherwise. Typically I found I was speaking to somebody in a foreign country which meant the quality of the call wasn’t great and had a delay which made the whole process that little more complicated. I was bounced between the 2 departments several times over 3 consecutive nights with increasing levels of frustration until one evening, while using Chat with the Consumer department, I pretty much lost it and regaled just what I’d been through.


At that the agent went and spoke to a manager, came back and told me that, as a good will gesture, they’d email me the link to download the install – which they did and now everything is working. So I eventually got what I needed, it was just so complicated because neither the Consumer nor Business department had access to all the information they needed to determine that my request was legitimate.

As soon as I mentioned a Consumer install to the Business people they’d shrug me off and the same with the Consumer people when I mentioned a Business install. As such I’m afraid I can’t give you the phone number to call to get this resolved, but, in my recent experience, go via the Microsoft Answer Desk Chat service, exclaim the pain you’ve been through and nobody’s helping and, hopefully, they’ll send you the download link you require.

It is way over 3 months now and they haven’t, and several follow-up calls ended nowhere It is a quality of service to be ashamed of.
